'Threads II' by Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Miriam McConnon
was acquired in December 2018 by the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland for the Embassy of Ireland in Nicosia, Cyprus where the Irish artist is based.
The artist examines to what extent domestic rhythms -and the objects that occupy these rhythms- shape our memories and our emotional attachments. It is the preoccupation of gender association with the domestic object that interests her. McConnon re-presents utilitarian and household objects in isolation from their domesticity in order to draw attention to certain aspects of the domestic realm. One of these aspects is the dominant presence of the role of femininity in our sense of a home.
