Eoin Mac Lochlainn

'Tinteán Tréigthe II'

OPW State Art Collection, Ireland

Eoin Mac Lochlainn, 'Tinteán Tréigthe II', oil on canvas, 50 x 50 cm, Olivier Cornet Gallery

This very evocative painting by Eoin Mac Lochlainn was purchased in 2015 by the Office of Public Works (OPW) for the collection of the Irish State.

'Tinteán Tréigthe II' was part of a series of works exhibited in the artist's first solo show at Olivier Cornet Gallery in September-October 2015. The exhibition, titled Diaspora, was a reflection on Irish emigration in the 21st century. It featured a series of paintings portraying abandoned fireplaces in derelict houses from the West coast of Ireland. The show was opened by Dr Margarita Cappock, who at the time was the Deputy Director and Head of Collections at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. The exhibition, which was a sell out, was reviewed by Brian McAvera in the Irish Arts Review Magazine, Autumn 2015, p.374-375:

To quote Brian McAvera in this excellent review:
"These are layered and satisfyingly complex paintings, evocative, textured, subtle, creating a dialogue between figuration and abstraction, a more subdued dialogue between frontality and three-dimensionality, and managing that difficult tightrope balance of being socially aware without prettifying the subject. This is an artist to watch!"

TG4 Kate Finnegan came to the gallery on 1st october 2015 to interview the artist in a great documentary produced by Red Shoe Ltd.

A second series is now available at the gallery. Any painting with the mention 'Private Collection' has been sold.
