A Quiet Conversation by Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Jordi Fornies
Jordi Forniés
'A Quiet Conversation'
Conference Centre, Dublin Castle (OPW State Art Collection)
This wonderful painting by Jordi Forniés was acquired in 2012 by the Office of Public Works (OPW) for the collection of the Irish State. It hangs in the Conference Centre of Dublin Castle where all artworks refer to the art of conversation. It was placed there initially for the duration of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013.
This painting was part of the artist's solo show 'Espacios'
organised by the Olivier Cornet Gallery at Filmbase. The exhibition was dedicated to the memory of the Irish art historian Rosemarie Mulcahy who had passed away earlier that year and who was a keen supporter of the artist and the gallery. She also opened the artist's solo show 'Tír na nÓg'
in 2009. Espacios was opened by the art critic and author Robert O'Byrne. The exhibition was accompanied by a beautiful catalogue with an essay by the art historian Dr Nicola Gordon Bowe who had opened the artist's solo exhibition 'Mirabile Dictu' in 2011.
More recently, A Quiet Conversation was included in the #CuratorBattle
project run by Dublin Castle during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the paintings in the show were complemented by a soundtrack by the Irish composer Mark Hennessey.
