'Elephant Mural, Waterford City'

Contemporary Irish Art Society  (CIAS), Ireland

A painting I made after a recent visit to Waterford City. While I was roaming the streets, I was captivated by the amazing large scale urban art that lines the streets and back alleys.”
David Fox

This wonderful painting was acquired by the Contemporary Irish Art Society in December 2023.

The Contemporary Irish Art Sociey (CIAS) is an important force in contemporary visual arts culture in Ireland. As well as the purchase of artworks by emerging artists, it runs a regular programme of visits to public and private galleries, artists’ studios and private collections. The society also advises on the collection and display of Irish art, leading to a greater appreciation and understanding of the country’s dynamic contemporary visual arts movement.

'Elephant Mural, Waterford City' was part of the artist's second solo exhibition with us. The show, entitled 'Urban Fingerprint', ran from November 10 to December 10 2023. The show was opened by the artist James Hanley RHA who spoke very eloquently about David's body of work:
“…the fingerprint is there and the artist, with his beautifully deadpan and wonderfully composed oils, ensures those transient fingerprints become immortalised, and the outside art moves inside to be enjoyed for a long time to come…”

David Fox's works also feature in the OPW State Art collection, for instance 'The Motorway VI'.
