OPW acquires Eoin Mac Lochlainn’s video 'Cogadh na gCarad'

The Olivier Cornet Gallery is delighted to announce that the OPW has just acquired a copy of Eoin Mac Lochlainn’s video 'Cogadh na gCarad / the War between Friends' for the State Art Collection. The 18-minute-long film (available in an edition of 3) was created in collaboration with filmmaker Don Rorke. It features about a hundred images out of the 1400 charcoal drawings created by the artist to commemorate the dead from the Irish Civil War.

The video was projected in the Garden of Remembrance on 3 nights in March 2023 in parallel with the artist’s exhibition of drawings here at the gallery. The video also features sean-nós singing by Sarah Ghriallais and Fearghas Mac Lochlainn. 

Very few videos feature in the OPW state art collection which makes this acquisition even more exciting. A copy of the video can be seen at the gallery on request. We have also a few of the charcoal drawings in storage. Please contact Olivier at olivier@oliviercornetgallery.com for more details.
