The Sea Road by Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Conrad Frankel
Conrad Frankel
'The Sea Road'
OPW State Art Collection, Ireland
This wondrous painting by Conrad Frankel was acquired in 2014 by the Office of Public Works (OPW) for the collection of the Irish State.
'The sea road' (Carrowgarry, co Sligo)' was part of a group show exploring the concept of flânerie in a rural environment. The exhibition, titled Flâneries in forests and fields, took place in the Summer of 2014 at 5 Cavendish Row where the Olivier Cornet Gallery was based from February 2014 to July 2015.
To the writer of these notes and curator of the show, this painting has remained a source of immense pleasure and wonder. Those who were lucky to see this work before it joined the collection of the Irish State, were always full of praise for it. Parallels with the work of Tony O'Malley or David Hockney were often drawn, just to mention two names as this painting has often been the subject of many comparisons. However, most would agree on its unique beauty. We can only hope to see it again at some stage, maybe in an OPW touring exhibition?
