This mesmerising photograph by Lynn Rothwell
was acquired in 2012 by the Office of Public Works (OPW) for the collection of the Irish State.
'Voice over I' was part of a group show 'The Flâneur'
which was held in July 2012 at the Olivier Cornet Gallery (then located at 1 The Wooden Building in Temple Bar). The exhibition featured work by recent art graduates from DIT, IADT and NCAD. It was curated by Kate Howard, winner of our Visiting Curator Award, an award we created in 2012 to give a recent graduate a chance to gain experience in curating for a commercial gallery. Since then we have invited our own artists and other guests to co-curate shows at the gallery.
The OPW acquired another work by the artist: Voice Over II which was also part of the show at the gallery.
We were delighted to hear in June 2013 that with this work, Voice Over I, Lynn had won the Curtin O’Donoghue Emerging Photographic Artist Award at the 183rd RHA Annual Exhibition.
In September - October 2013, the OPW included both works (Voice Over I and Voice Over II) in a touring exhibition titled 40/40/40. The exhibition was organised to mark the 40th anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the European Union. Organised in collaboration with The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the show travelled to Madrid, Warsaw and Rome. What a journey for this beautiful work!
