Waiting by Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Eoin Mac Lochlainn
'Waiting' by Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Eoin Mac Lochlainn
This beautiful painting by the Olivier Cornet Gallery artist Eoin Mac Lochlainn
is hanging in the hallway of our building at 3 Great Denmark Street, Dublin (Ireland). It was inspired by the character Babette, played by the great French actress Stéphane Audran, in Gabriel Axel’s film “Babette’s Feast”. The Film was based on a story by Karen Blixen.
The painting is part of the artist's Caoineadh/Elegies
series of works which he submitted for consideration to the panel of the Golden Fleece Award in 2008 the year he won that prestigious award.
'Waiting' also featured in our touring exhibition 'A Terrible Beauty' when it was shown in the Octagonal Room, City Assembly House, Dublin, in February-March 2015, by kind invitation of the Irish Georgian Society. The exhibition was an artists' response/reaction to the photographic work that François Bost carried out during the Battle of the Somme. Bost, Olivier Cornet's great grand uncle, served as a photographer in the French army during WW1.
The Dublin artist included this painting in his Covid Eyes project, a temporary art project for the period of the Coronavirus pandemic, a project grant aided by the Arts Council of Ireland. This painting was included in the artist's solo show 'Covid Eyes' at the Olivier Cornet Gallery (October 2020).
We would love for this painting to join the collection of an embassy in Europe, a film buff or a film institute, but it would look great in any collection. Come and have a look at it at the gallery.
